Amsterdam based artist
Daphne Glasmacher (b. 1979, Ede, Netherlands) is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. She explores perception through light, movement and reflection. Her work is not only meant to be seen, but to be experienced, revealing how perception continuously shifts through time, space and perspective.
Inspired by natural phenomena, she develops layered compositions in which image, light and material interact. Through geometric forms, rhythm and contrast, her work brings together opposites such as stillness and motion, order and disruption, resulting in a balanced harmony.
Since her first presentation in 2017, where she introduced a video installation at Parklicht Amsterdam, her practice has expanded across disciplines. In 2022, she began presenting her 2D works alongside installations. Today, she works fluidly across 2D, objects, and video installations.
Light, reflection, movement and fragmentation are central to her work. By layering materials and using techniques such as lenticular imagery and moving images, she creates visual experiences that shift with the viewer’s position. Her works unfold over time, inviting a slower and more attentive way of looking.
She works with materials such as plexiglass and glass, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technologies.
Her work has been presented at national and international exhibitions, including Dutch (de) Light (Unna, DE), ILIGHTU (Utrecht, NL), PAN Amsterdam, Art Rotterdam, and LUMEN at Schloss Biesdorf (Berlin, DE). Her work is also on view at Galerie Mark Hachem in Paris and is regularly presented by Kunsthandel Meijer Utrecht.
